The Swisher ESP Safety Shelter offers the ultimate in multi-purpose protection and security against violent acts of nature and threats posed by man. Designed to withstand the most extreme tornado activity, this above-ground shelter provides a safe zone for you and your loved ones.

The shelter's internal dimensions measure 80"L x 110"W x 76"H, with external dimensions of 87"L x 117"W x 78"H, accommodating up to 20 people in a private setting or 12 in a business setting. As your family grows, additional expansion kits are available to increase the depth of the shelter from 114" to 144".

Constructed with 3/16" (0.188") thick carbon steel and featuring Grade 5 hardware, the majority of the surfaces are powder-coated for ultimate protection and appearance. The door design is a critical aspect, with a unique sliding reinforced steel door that eliminates the common issues associated with inward and outward swinging doors. This sliding door takes up no additional space when opened and reduces the likelihood of being trapped by debris after an event.

The security features of the ESP Safety Shelter are impressive. A Security Grade Deadbolt holds the latch bar in the locked position, and three steel pins securely lock the door within a 3" deep steel jamb pocket. Additionally, a 4th locking pin can only be installed and removed from the inside, ensuring the door will never open unless the inhabitants remove this pin. A single handle operation locks all three pins in a single motion, eliminating the need to waste time locking multiple deadbolts.

The shelter's design does not rely solely on hinges to support and secure the door; instead, the entire hinge side (top to bottom) is locked into the adjacent front wall when the door is in the closed position. Shielded air vents allow uninterrupted airflow, and the quick-release sliding door design allows for opening when blocked by debris, reducing the space required for operation.

For added safety, the ESP Safety Shelter features emergency panels for rapid shelter exit, with an emergency wrench included. The modular bolt-together design ensures ease of construction and relocation. Benches, shelving, and built-in gun racks are also available as optional accessories.

These shelters have undergone rigorous testing and verification, meeting the requirements of FEMA 320, FEMA 361, and the ICC-500-2014 Code when installed per the manufacturer's guidelines and inspected by a qualified inspector. The shelter has been tested and withstood a total of nine impacts from 15-pound 2x4s traveling at 100 mph, equivalent to the force produced by an F5 tornado with 250-mph winds.

The Swisher ESP Safety Shelter is designed to be a DIY project, but the final installation must be inspected by a qualified professional. The shelter comes with a Limited Lifetime Storm Damage Replacement Benefit, provided that all installation procedures are followed and documented proof is submitted to the manufacturer.
